The Brief

Set-A-Side Storage had been the trusted logistics and storage partner for The X Factor since its debut in 2004. So when Fremantle – the team behind both The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent – launched BGT, they looked nowhere else.

From the outset, Britain’s Got Talent was a major logistical challenge: a touring audition format, large-scale live shows, ever-changing set requirements, and complex prop movements across multiple venues. Fremantle needed a partner who could manage the scale, the speed, and the unpredictability.

Set-A-Side was brought on in 2009 – and has been a key part of the show’s delivery ever since.

Our Role

Over 18 series and 277 episodes (including BGT: The Champions), Set-A-Side has delivered full-scale logistics and storage support – with zero missed pickups or deliveries.

Our responsibilities have included:

  • Long-term secure storage of all main stage and contestant set pieces
  • Nationwide transport for auditions across 7-8 cities per season
  • Load-in/load-out for live shows, primarily filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo
  • On-site support during filming days
  • In-house recycling and repurposing of older sets

From core scenic elements to one-off props for individual performances, we’ve ensured every piece arrives safely, on time, and show-ready.

Constantly Evolving

Britain’s Got Talent never stands still – and neither do its logistics.

Over the years, the production has evolved through multiple organisational changes, five major core sets, and hundreds of one-off staging pieces.

Set-A-Side’s deep understanding of the show’s requirements has ensured a constant thread of continuity – even as teams, formats, and demands shift.

In-house recycling has been a critical part of our service, helping repurpose or responsibly dispose of assets at the end of each series. Set-A-Side manages this fully in-house – something Fremantle specifically sought out in their logistics partner.

The Impact

When so much changes over time – production teams, locations, formats, and set designs – Set-A-Side remains the constant.

With over 15 years of support, across 18 series and 277 episodes, we’ve never missed a delivery or collection. Our proactive, flexible service means the client never has to second-guess logistics, storage, or sustainability.

“There’s no margin for error with a live show. Set delays mean air delays – and that’s simply not an option. Set-A-Side has never let us down. They’re professional, proactive, and genuinely care about getting it right.

The Set-A-Side team have been with the show from the outset. They predate me and pretty much everyone else on the production! The guys really know what is required and help filming go smoothly. It is a constantly changing production and their flexibility is probably what we value most. They really go the extra mile.”
